Storm rings out year with road loss

The Toledo Storm's (15-13-1) road struggles continued yesterday as they dropped the New Year's Eve game to the Johnstown Chiefs (14-13-3) by a 5-2 count at Cambria County War Memorial.

Toledo struck first when defenseman Paul Crosty, playing forward as a result of injuries and illness, sent a wrist shot through the pads of goaltender Morgan Cey at 14:02 of the first period.

St. John's Beats Libbey For District Championship

If a state championship is the goal, it seems best to lose the city championship. The Libbey Cowboys experienced the negative "power of three" last night at Savage Hall, absorbing a 75-70 loss to St. John's Jesuit in the Division I boys district championship game.

This marked the third straight year that a CL champion lost in the district final to a league rival it had beaten twice earlier in the season. Scott beat St. John's in 2005, and St. John's paid the Bulldogs back last year.

No. 1 Buckeyes Rout Badgers in Big Ten

Things are looking brighter and brighter for all of the Buckeye fans out there.

Unsurprisingly, Greg Oden heard the chants for one more year from the Ohio State fans and did his best to ignore them. Time will only tell if the 7-foot freshman grants their wish or answers the call of the NBA, but his mind was on other things Sunday.

Findlay Ekes by Central to Reach State Final 4

Findlay never made it past the Division I girls basketball regionals in the previous two seasons to claim the regional championship.

All that changed yesterday when the Trojans beat Central Catholic 49-43 for the coveted regional title.

Bowling Green Lands New Basketball Coach

Bowling Green State University has hired former Seton Hall basketball coach Louis Orr. Orr will take over a team that failed to reach the NCAA tournament in 10 seasons under Dan Dakich.

Orr led Seton Hall to the NCAA tournament twice and to the NIT in 2003 before he was fired last March.

As the final days count down for the Toledo Sports Arena, the Storm has played better on ice.

Their second straight victory was a 3-1 decision over the Johnstown Chiefs on Wednesday. Toledo goals were scored by Scooter Smith, Jeremy Hall, and Nick Parillo. The win moves the Storm alone in 3rd place in their division.
