Whitmer co-captains Kendall Kulakowski and Melissa Gorsuch responded like leaders in a Division I district softball final against Notre Dame yesterday at Rolf Park in Maumee.
Kulakowski tagged a two-out base hit off Notre Dame ace Kristin Gramling in the bottom of the ninth inning that allowed Gorsuch to score from second base to give the Panthers a 4-3 extra-innings victory.
Gorsuch, who doubled with two outs to get into scoring position, raced around third base before sliding into home to secure Whitmer a second straight district championship.
The Panthers (19-6) will play in a regional seminal against the Parma district winner on Thursday at Clyde.
