Story from Toledo Guide

Storm rings out year with road loss

The Toledo Storm's (15-13-1) road struggles continued yesterday as they dropped the New Year's Eve game to the Johnstown Chiefs (14-13-3) by a 5-2 count at Cambria County War Memorial.

Toledo struck first when defenseman Paul Crosty, playing forward as a result of injuries and illness, sent a wrist shot through the pads of goaltender Morgan Cey at 14:02 of the first period.

Crosty's first professional goal came unassisted and gave the Storm a 1-0 lead after one period in which Johnstown outshot Toledo 12-9.

The Chiefs regrouped in the second period as Doug Andress connected twice for a 2-1 lead. The first came 22 seconds into the second period as he beat Dominic Vicari with a shot from just inside the blue line. While playing in a four-on-four situation, Andress took a drop pass from forward Dimitri Tarabrin and catapulted a shot from between the circles for his ninth goal of the year and a 2-1 lead.

Ironically, Toledo outshot Johnstown 15-9 in the second.

After Adam Henrich gave the Chiefs a 3-1 lead in the third, Mike James brought Toledo back when he tucked home a rebound left in front by Cey at the 3:01 mark.

But the Chiefs would respond in a big way midway through the period.

At 10:21, Zbynek Hrdel put a shot past Vicari to regain a two-goal goal lead.

Then at 14:50, Brandon Elliot slid a rebound into the Storm net to put Johnstown up by the 5-2 final.
